Senator Shaheen's office lies about releasing her public schedule for the week and then rushes to blunt criticism after we visited her office this morning

Posted on

(March 17, 2014) - This weekend, Senator Jeanne Shaheen was once again worrying about her own political career rather than spending time with New Hampshire constituents. In fact, she wasn't even in the Granite State. She was in California fundraising.

With pressure building due to the fact that Senator Shaheen rarely holds public events and hasn't hosted a real Town Hall meeting to meet with Granite Staters in years, in a Politico article on Saturday, "her office said she has a full week of events scheduled in New Hampshire and that they will send advisories on Monday."
Considering her website,, doesn't have an "events" section and we had yet to hear that she had released what her public schedule would be for the week, Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire visited Senator Shaheen's Manchester office today to request a full list of the events she will be attending for the week, as her office had promised to distribute on Monday (today) in Politico.
In response, her Manchester staff told us that Senator Shaheen only has one public event today and the staffer would only list the names of towns that the senator might be in throughout the week. Contrary to what was promised in Saturday's Politico article by her staff, her Manchester staffer said that they "do not do a list (of events) for the week." In addition, apparently the only way to be made aware of events where she will be present at is if you are a member of the media considering her website doesn't have an "events" section and you need to be on the "press list" to find out where Senator Shaheen will be at.

Interestingly enough, after we visited Senator Shaheen's office this morning, this appeared on the press section of her website dictating the events she will be attending tomorrow.  However, this is still not the full week's schedule as promised in Politico. Furthermore, it is regrettable that it takes pressure from us and the media to make these events available to Granite Staters.

Derek Dufresne, Spokesman for Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire, released the following statement:
"Senator Shaheen has been hiding from New Hampshire residents for years. Like Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) and Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02), our state's senior senator is more concerned about avoiding tough questions regarding her ongoing support for a failing Obamacare than her duty to meet with her constituents and effectively represent their values in Washington.
"We are not surprised that Senator Shaheen would continue hiding from New Hampshire residents by refusing to release her public schedule for the week and then trickling out public events for today and tomorrow after pressure from us and the media. We are getting used to that. However, we are very disappointed that her office would lie about it and rush to blunt the criticism she knew she would get from us after visiting her office this morning. Sadly, like the 'Lie of the Year' she told her constituents, that if they liked their health insurance they could keep it, her office is continuing that trend with false truths about her public schedule. Regardless of our many varying positions on the important issues, Granite Staters want a U.S. Senator who is honest and forthright. Regrettably, what we have in Senator Shaheen is another Washington politician who hides and lies to those she has sworn an oath to represent."
