Release: Maggie Hassan's Terrorist Backyard Blockparty

Posted on

MANCHESTER - Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire is launching a new microsite this week. The site highlights the dangerous ramifications of Governor Maggie Hassan's inability to understand important foreign policy issues, including those surrounding the closure of the Guantanamo Bay terrorist detention facility.

Hassan has been playing all sides of this national security issue for political gain since October of last year. HassansBackyardParty.com will be backed by a significant, state-wide, online advertisement buy.

Background:

Governor Maggie Hassan told the Union Leader in October of last year that she would,"consider closing the Guantanamo Bay military prison."  In the months following her statement, despite pressure from organizations like ours and others, Hassan refused to explain what she would support doing with the dangerous detainees if the detention facility was closed.

After multiple terrorist attacks around the world, Granite Staters have become increasingly concerned about national security issues. Thus, after President Obama announced his proposal, for political gain, Maggie Hassan told WMUR-TV that she was"skeptical"of his plan that included relocating the dangerous individuals to facilities abroad and in the United States.

While Governor Hassan has come out in opposition specifically to President Obama's plan, like a typical Washington politician, she has not come out in opposition to closing the facility. Thus, Granite Staters are still left wondering what plan she would support - or if she's finally ready admit she was wrong when she said she would "consider closing" Gitmo last October.

Derek Dufresne of Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire released the following statement:

"How our leaders approach important national security issues has serious implications on the safety and security of all Americans. Regrettably, na├»ve Governor Maggie Hassan has proven time and time again that her lack of experience has the potential to put every Granite State neighborhood at risk.

"With her finger in the air to test the direction of the political winds, Maggie Hassan has literally been on all sides of issues pertaining to the Guantanamo Bay detention facility. It is beyond time for her to stop hiding behind robotic statements that are carefully crafted to help her career. For too long, our politicians have been getting away with parsing their words. What we want here is clarity, honesty, and a little straight talk. But frankly what we want is not important, it is what New Hampshire deserves."
