Release: Governor Maggie Hassan Supported the Iran Deal. Does She Support Cash For Hostages?
MANCHESTER - Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire is calling on Governor Maggie Hassan to provide an update on her support for the Obama Administration's ongoing payoffs to Iran.
Last year, Maggie Hassan commented on the Iran Deal: "While imperfect, it's the best available option to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, but it is only the first step."
This month we learned that the Obama Administration paid $400 million to Iran in exchange for the release of four American hostages. Critics warned that the deal established a dangerous precedent that put Americans at risk. Just this week, the State Department issued an updated warning for Americans traveling to Iran: "The Department of State warns U.S. citizens of the risks of travel to Iran. This replaces the Travel Warning for Iran dated March 14, 2016, to reiterate and highlight the risk of arrest and detention of U.S. citizens..."
Derek Dufresne of Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire released the following statement:
"Governor Maggie Hassan supported last year's Iran Nuclear Deal. Now we have learned that the Obama Administration made cash ransom payments for Iranian-held American hostages. Does Maggie Hassan support cash-for-hostages? Does she still support the Iran Deal? Last year, she stated that the Iran Deal was 'only the first step.' Does she think that paying $400 million to the Iranians to free American hostages is an acceptable next step?
"According to the Obama State Department, Americans are now more at risk from Iranian hostage-takers following the ransom. Granite Staters deserve to know whether she supports these dangerous policies."
