Shea-Porter and Kuster vote against defunding Obamacare and against keeping our federal government running
(September 20, 2013) - Today, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) and Congresswoman Ann McLane Kuster (NH-02) both voted against defunding Obamacare and against keeping the federal government running by opposing H.J. Res. 59 - Making Continuing Appropriations for Fiscal Year 2014. Despite their opposition, the legislation passed the House of Representatives 230-189 and will be presented to the U.S. Senate for consideration.
Poll after poll has shown that a majority of Granite Staters are opposed to Obamacare - evidence seen here in the most recent polling on the subject from the University of New Hampshire. However, Rep. Shea-Porter (who voted for Obamacare) and Rep. Kuster have remained strong supporters of the failing law despite strong opposition from their constituents.
Derek Dufresne, Spokesman for Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire, released the following statement:
"Despite fierce opposition from their constituents, Rep. Shea-Porter's and Rep. Kuster's votes today prove they are so determined to force Obamacare down the throats of Granite Staters that they are even willing to shut down the federal government to do so.
"From public surveys to grassroots protests, New Hampshire residents have made their voices loud and clear on Obamacare. They know that this failed law has already begun the destructive process of limiting healthcare access and raising costs in our state. Sadly though, Granite State opposition continues to be pushed aside as our 'representatives' in Washington put their liberal allegiances ahead of their own constituents."
Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire encourages Granite Staters to call Rep. Carol Shea-Porter at 202-225-5456 and Rep. Ann McLane Kuster at 202-225-5206 and tell them to stop playing politics and start listening to their constituents. It is time to do the right thing and defund Obamacare and keep our federal government running.
