Petitioning Rep. Annie Kuster to back up her new words on Benghazi with action and Co-sponsor H. Res. 36, legislation that would establish a select committee to investigate the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi
(December 12, 2013) - Video of a disastrous blunder by Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02) with her refusal to answer questions regarding the attack in Benghazi, Libya that resulted in the deaths of four Americans has now been viewed hundreds of thousands of times on Youtube.
After pressure from both local and national media, the congresswoman finally responded with her thoughts regarding the attacks with the following statement published in the Union Leader:
"Like all Americans, I was horrified by the tragic attack on our Embassy in Benghazi that killed four patriotic Americans. Our focus must remain on finding those responsible, bringing them to justice, and taking every necessary step to prevent an attack like this from ever happening again."
Her office said that she was not as clear as she would have liked to have been in her response, but she believes the U.S. government needs to get to the bottom of what happened in Benghazi and bring those responsible to justice.
During the video, Rep. Kuster was asked by a Granite Stater about her thoughts on H. Res. 36, legislation introduced by Rep. Frank Wolf (VA-10), which calls for establishing a select committee to investigate and report on the attack of the United States consulate in Benghazi. While she wouldn't answer then, considering her statement where she has called for the U.S. government to get to the bottom of what happened in Benghazi and bring those responsible to justice, Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire is calling on Rep. Kuster to back up her words with action and co-sponsor H. Res. 36 immediately. We have set up an online petition on our website, StrongNH.com, and will be encouraging Granite Staters to sign it.
It is important to note that according to Rep. Wolf's office, H Res. 36 has already been co-sponsored by more than 175 Members of Congress and has been endorsed by family members of the victims of the attack, the Special Operations community, the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, and the editorial page of the Wall Street Journal.
Derek Dufresne, Spokesman for Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire, released the following statement:
"Many Granite Staters are extremely concerned about the depth of knowledge Rep. Annie Kuster has on foreign policy issues as a result of the video that surfaced this week. They are also disheartened that it took pressure from the media after the video went viral to finally respond to the initial questions about an attack that resulted in the deaths of four Americans.
"That being said, we at Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire are calling on Rep. Annie Kuster to back up her statement calling for an investigation into the Benghazi attack. Rather than just lip service to the media, she should co-sponsor tangible legislation to take action. We encourage all Granite Staters to contact the congresswoman from NH-02 at 202-225-5206, sign our petition, and encourage her to co-sponsor H. Res. 36 immediately."
