Carol Shea-Porter: It's About Service, Not Your Pay

Posted on

Today, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter has once again proved to Granite Staters that she is more concerned with her own pay than her responsibility to those she was elected to represent.  She also continued the trend of voting with the most extreme liberals members of Congress.

Congresswoman Shea-Porter voted against an overwhelmingly bi-partisan amendment this morning that would prohibit the Treasury from borrowing above the debt limit to pay for compensation for Members of Congress. The amendment passed 340-84 with 111 Democrats (a majority of Democrats) joining in support, but Congresswoman Shea-Porter was not one of them.

Today's example follows on the heels of her vote against another piece of bi-partisan legislation known as "No Budget, No Pay" back in January.  This bill passed the House 285-144, then passed the Senate 64 to 34, and was eventually signed into law by President Obama. Derek Dufresne, spokesman for Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire, Inc, released the following statement:

"Today, Congresswoman Shea-Porter once again decided to side with the most extreme liberal members of Congress to protect her own six figure salary rather than focusing on our crushing debt and deficit. Considering Congresswoman Shea-Porter is from a state that embodies the belief of a citizen legislature, you would think she would understand the importance of representing being about service rather than pay.

"We encourage Granite Staters to call Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter at 603-641-9536. Tell her to stop voting with the most extreme liberal members of Congress to protect her own pay and start supporting legislation that will reduce our debt and deficit."
